Canadian rapper Tory Lanez’s wife, Raina Chassagne has filed for divorce after no more than a few months of their marriage.
Chassagne's petition for divorce indicates that the couple possesses no communal assets or liabilities for allocation. The question of alimony remains subject to the court's decision.
Chassagne and Lanez, (born as Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson) are also the parents of a 7-year-old son, Kai’lon, whom she aims to gain legal and physical custody of.
Chassagne cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason behind her divorce request.
Lanez who secretly married Chassagne shortly before he was reported to prison is now currently facing a 10 year sentence for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the feet in the summer of 2020 in the Hollywood Hills.
The occurrence ignited a widely covered legal dispute and thorough examination of Lanez's behavior. The District Attorney of Los Angeles County praised Megan Thee Stallion for her courage in confronting the distressing incidents and seeking legal recourse. Lanez's record of defying court directives and his Canadian nationality were cited as grounds for refusing him bail. The rapper remains incarcerated as his personal life experiences notable transformations.
The "Savage" rapper testified that Lanez discharged multiple rounds towards her while shouting "Dance, B***h!” during their journey back from a soirée.
Megan Thee Stallion asserted that the rift began from their occasional intimate relationship but soon escalated into a clash concerning their respective music careers.
Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, proceeded to claim that the rapper behind "Say It" proposed a sum of $1 million each to her and her former confidante Kelsey Harris, who was present during the altercation, in exchange for their silence regarding the incident.
Concurrently, Harris confessed to dispatching a message to Stallion's security personnel stating, "Help / Tory shot meg / 911."
Ultimately, he was found guilty on all counts, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, and possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
Lanez received his sentencing in August 2023 and commenced serving it at North Kern State Prison in Delano, California, the subsequent month.
