Zaheer Iqbal says he wanted to elope with Sonakshi Sinha, says 'I got to know that weddings are not valid in India'

Sonakshi Sinha tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend Zaheer Khan in an intimate wedding in June this year. The two are currently enjoying their married life, but there was a time when Zaheer wanted to elope with his now-wife Sonakshi.

In an interview with an online website, Zaheer said he wanted to get married elsewhere but came to know that it was not legal in India. "I wanted to elope... just bounce to the country and go somewhere, get married, and come back; but I got to know that weddings are not valid in India, like you can't go to Las Vegas and get married; it is not allowed," he said.

Sonakshi and Zaheer Iqbal had a registered marriage in the morning on June 23, and later in the evening, the couple hosted a reception for their family and close friends at a five-star hotel in Mumbai.

Adding to what Zaheer said, Sonakshi Sinha added that she had always wanted a simple and intimate wedding. "So that plan was cancelled, and I always wanted a very intimate wedding. And he (Zaheer) is okay as long as his most important people are there, which are our friends and family that were present at the signing."

Sonakshi and Zaheer recently went on their honeymoon in the Philippines. They are now enjoying dinner dates with their family.

She was also spotted wearing a polka-dot dress, which led to speculations about the Heeramandi actress being pregnant.

On the work front, Sonakshi was seen in the horror comedy Kakuda opposite Riteish Deshmukh and Saqib Saleem.
