Jatadhara is turning out to be one of those quiet surprises that grow purely on audience word-of-mouth. The film, presented by Zee Studios and Prerna Arora, has earned a strong Rs 4.62 crore (gross) over the weekend. What makes this rise noteworthy is that it isn’t being driven by aggressive marketing or star-heavy promotions. It’s being driven by people stepping out of theatres and recommending it.
The film opened steadily on Friday. On Saturday, it held firm. By Sunday, it showed a healthy jump, the kind that indicates long-term run potential rather than a one-off spike. Exhibitors have reported repeat audiences, especially in pockets where supernatural dramas with folklore connect strongly. That kind of traction is difficult to manufacture.
Jatadhara works because it creates an atmosphere that lingers. The film blends supernatural elements with mythological texture and rural belief systems, without slipping into loud theatrics. Sudheer Babu’s performance has become a talking point, particularly the Taandav sequence in the climax which many viewers have described as the “soul release” moment of the film. His physicality, control over expression, and emotional sharpness in that scene are being shared widely across social platforms.
Sonakshi Sinha’s turn as Dhana Pisachani pushes into a darker, more layered zone than what audiences have seen recently from her. Shilpa Shirodkar’s role in the black magic sequences has also stood out; her screen presence grounds the supernatural in lived emotional fear.
Jatadhara is structured as a bilingual supernatural fantasy thriller. Alongside Sudheer Babu and Sonakshi, the film features Divya Khossla in a special appearance and a strong ensemble including Indira Krishna, Ravi Prakash, Naveen Neni, Rohit Pathak, Jhansi, Rajeev Kanakala, and Subhalekha Sudhakar. The casting itself reflects a focus on performance-driven storytelling rather than star packaging.
The film’s production team includes Umesh Kumar Bansal, Shivin Narang, Aruna Agarwal, Prerna Arora, Shilpa Singhal, and Nikhil Nanda, with Akshay Kejriwal and Kussum Arora as co-producers. Divya Vijay served as Creative Producer and Bhavini Goswami as Supervising Producer.
If the weekday numbers hold, Jatadhara may not just be a solid performer but a case study in how strong storytelling and cultural grounding can still draw crowds—no noise required.
