At a vibrant award ceremony in Kochi, the evergreen Malayalam film icon Mohanlal captured the crowd with his dance moves to tunes from two big stars of Indian cinema: Shah Rukh Khan and Rajinikanth. The occasion was set ablaze when the 63-year-old actor danced to the hit number 'Zinda Banda' from Shah Rukh Khan’s film 'Jawan', and 'Hukum' from Rajinikanth's 'Jailer', both songs crafted by music maestro Anirudh Ravichander.
The excitement spilled over onto social media, where clips of Mohanlal's performance were circulated by his fans. Dressed in a snazzy cheetah-print shirt paired with a brown leather jacket and trousers, he showcased his signature vivacity on stage. The song 'Zinda Banda' comes from director Atlee’s action-packed film 'Jawan', released in 2023, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil.
Mohanlal, who had a brief but memorable role in Nelson Dilipkumar’s Tamil action comedy last year, also took the stage with Rajinikanth’s 'Hukum', another Anirudh composition.
The evening took a heartwarming turn when Mohanlal's contemporary and fellow superstar, Mammooty, came onto the stage to receive the Best Actor award. During his speech, Mammootty shared a touching sentiment, saying, “I've been in the industry for over 43 years. In this period, I've had a companion who has travelled with me. The person I am talking about is Mohanlal. He is a skilled actor, he is a magician. He can perform and dance. He tries to make everything perfect.” In a spontaneous moment, Mammootty kissed Mohanlal on the cheek, a gesture affectionately reciprocated by the 'Drishyam' actor.
Meanwhile, Mohanlal is not one to rest on his laurels. He has commenced shooting for Tharun Moorthy's film 'L360', marking his 360th film, where he will be sharing the screen with the talented Shobana once again. Actress Shobana had recently shared about the same on her Instagram handle.
Mohanlal is gearing up to reprise his role as the powerful Stephen Nedumpally in the much-awaited sequel to 'Lucifer', called 'L2E: Empuraan'. Under the direction of Prithviraj Sukumaran, who has successfully transitioned from leading actor to a compelling storyteller behind the camera, anticipation is high. The teaser poster alone has stirred excitement, showing Mohanlal in an intense standoff with a helicopter, the very image of readiness and resolve, gun in hand. Announced back in August 2022, 'L2E: Empuraan' promises to ramp up the intensity of the original’s narrative.
This multilingual venture, set to release in Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, has Prithviraj Sukumaran, a multi-faceted talent in the Indian film industry, at its helm.
