Junaid Khan, the eldest son of Aamir Khan, has garnered praise for his acting debut in the film Maharaj. However, in a recent interview with The Times of India, Junaid disclosed that his journey to the silver screen almost began with a different film altogether: the 2022 release Laal Singh Chaddha, starring his father Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor.
He revealed, “I had actually auditioned for Laal Singh Chaddha, which Papa has talked about publicly, but it didn’t work out. Papa (Aamir Khan) was very keen that I do the film.”
Director Siddharth P Malhotra shared that Junaid had initially auditioned for a role in Laal Singh Chaddha, with the same audition tape eventually leading to his casting in Maharaj.
He said, “It was this audition that Adi (Aditya Chopra) and I saw, and what an audition that was! It was outstanding and if that clip can be released at some point in time… it would be great.”
Laal Singh Chaddha, a Hindi adaptation of the 1994 Hollywood classic Forrest Gump, featured Aamir Khan alongside Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya, and Mona Singh. Despite early anticipation, the film faced controversy and boycott calls prior to its release, failing to perform strongly at the box office.
In contrast, Maharaj delves into the historic Maharaj Libel Case of 1862, helmed by director Siddharth P Malhotra. Junaid stars in the film as the protagonist Karsandas Mulji, a reformer and journalist, alongside Sharvari and Jaideep Ahlawat.
Looking ahead, Junaid is preparing for his upcoming project alongside Khushi Kapoor, directed by Advait Chandan. Described as a romantic comedy, this film is an adaptation of the popular Tamil movie Love Today, marking a significant step in Junaid's burgeoning career in cinema.
