Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt made a remarkable appearance at the Met Gala 2024. For this event, she chose to wear a traditional Indian saree designed by famous Indian designer Sabyasachi. This choice was especially significant because it aligned with the Met Gala's theme for the year, "The Garden of Time." Alia's decision to wear a saree added a unique and elegant touch to the event, celebrating the timeless beauty of Indian culture.

The saree that Alia wore was no ordinary outfit. It was a stunning piece, featuring elaborate floral embroidery that was both intricate and rich in detail. The making of this saree was a monumental task. It required 1905 hours of meticulous handwork by 163 skilled craftsmen. This effort speaks volumes about the dedication and artistry involved in Indian craftsmanship.

In an interview with Vogue, Alia shared her excitement about her outfit. She said, "I'm feeling great, and very excited. This has been months of preparation, and lots of conversation. It all builds up to this one moment. It's so real, but also so special." Alia’s participation at the Met Gala was not just a personal achievement but also a moment of pride for her country, as she brought a piece of Indian tradition to a global fashion stage.

Further expressing her thoughts on why she chose a saree, Alia explained, "It is my second time at the Met, but my first time wearing a saree. When I thought of the dress code, 'Garden of Time', I felt that it needed something timeless. And, there is nothing more timeless than a saree." This statement highlights how her fashion choice was deeply connected to both the theme of the event and her cultural roots.

The saree itself was a work of art, characterised by its sheer fabric and flowing design that gracefully complemented Alia’s figure. The detailed hand embroidery on the saree showcased a variety of floral patterns, adding to its grandeur and aligning perfectly with the garden theme of the gala.

Alia also mentioned the emotional and labour-intensive process behind the creation of the saree, saying, "This is all hand embroidery. It took 1905 man hours and 163 craftsmen to make this ensemble. I'm so excited to bring this out to the world for everybody to see because it has taken a lot of love and labour and effort. And, anything that has gotten love and time, lasts forever, like the garden."

Her look was completed with sophisticated jewellery and a classic hairstyle that not only enhanced the elegance of the saree but also made a bold statement on the international stage. Alia Bhatt’s appearance at the Met Gala was not just a display of stunning fashion but also a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of India. Through her choice of attire, she showcased the timeless elegance of the saree and the meticulous craftsmanship of Indian artisans, making a memorable impact at one of fashion’s biggest nights.
