Maheep Kapoor reveals her first encounter with husband sanjay kapoor, says "I just had a one-night stand with a man and never knew I'd marry him"

Maheep Kapoor, who has been married to actor Sanjay Kapoor for over 30 years, recently opened up about the surprising start to their love story. In a candid interview, she shared that their relationship began in an unexpected way—she first met Sanjay after gatecrashing his party while she was completely drunk, with no intentions beyond a one-night encounter.

Maheep Kapoor made her television debut with Netflix’s 'Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives' in 2022. Now, three seasons into the show, her chemistry with her husband, actor Sanjay Kapoor, continues to be a fan favorite, with audiences still captivated by their bond and interactions on screen.

On an interview with comedian, Raunaq Rajani, Maheep Kapoor recalled her love story with Sanjay Kapoor and said, "Ours was quite simple. I just had a one-night stand with a man and I never knew I was going to get married to him. I gatecrashed his party, that’s where I met him. Dead drunk. I met the whole family, mother-in-law and father-in-law. You guys know my family na? Anil, Sunita, Sri (Sridevi). I was dead drunk."

Maheep added, “They still accepted me and said, ‘Wow, what an amazing future daughter-in-law.’ They welcomed me with open arms. We didn’t have all this proposal and all. I’m much older than you. We didn’t have Instagram. So, we didn’t give a sh*t. He just told me, ‘Look, we’re getting married.'"

"We were at The 1900s (nightclub). We were drunk and partying. He said, ‘Okay, we’re getting married.’ So, in between my tequila shots, I said, ‘Okay, fine.’ That was it," she said. She mentioned that since she dated Sanjay for five years before they got married, she has been with him for 30 years now.

However, their marriage has had its fair share of challenges. In the first season of 'Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives', Maheep Kapoor opened up about a difficult phase in their relationship, revealing that her husband, actor Sanjay Kapoor, had cheated on her early in their marriage. Despite this, Maheep chose to move past the betrayal and prioritized keeping her marriage intact for the sake of their children. She said, “Now you know it, Seema. Initially in my marriage, there was an indiscretion that Sanjay had or whatever. I walked out with Shanaya. I stood up for myself, but then, I had a newborn baby. As a woman and a mother, my first priority was always my child.”

Maheep explained how she ultimately chose to stay in the marriage for the sake of her children. She added, "I owed my daughter this amazing father, which he is. I owed it to myself. And if I look back, if I had broken this up, I would have regretted it for the rest of my life. Because when my kids walk into my home, and my husband walks into my home, this is their sanctuary. They need to feel peace. And I feel Sanjay gives that to me too."

Sanjay Kapoor, the youngest brother of renowned film producers Boney Kapoor and actor Anil Kapoor, married Maheep in 1997. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Shanaya Kapoor, in 1999, followed by the birth of their son, Jahaan Kapoor, in 2006.
