Shanaya Kapoor, the daughter of Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor, is gearing up for her highly anticipated Bollywood debut this year. Her journey into the world of cinema comes with not only immense talent but also a cherished connection to her late aunt, Sridevi, Bollywood’s first female superstar. In a recent interview with Filmfare, Maheep Kapoor fondly recalled some special memories of Sridevi, revealing intimate moments shared between their families, including one memorable instance when Sridevi pierced Shanaya’s ears.
Maheep described Sridevi as "pure magic," noting her graceful presence and nurturing nature. She shared that Sridevi would light up the room with her aura, especially during celebrations like Karwa Chauth, where she would often appear regal and motherly. "Sridevi was just magic," Maheep recalled. "She used to walk in like a queen at the Karwa Chauth celebration. She was very motherly."
However, one of the most heartwarming stories Maheep shared involved Sridevi taking the responsibility of piercing Shanaya's ears. At the time, Maheep was too paranoid to do it herself, but Sridevi, with her calm demeanor, handled the situation effortlessly. Maheep shared, "Shanaya’s ears were first pierced by Sridevi. I was very paranoid, but Sri (Sridevi) took Shanaya aside and did the procedure with ease."
Maheep also spoke about another occasion when Shanaya wanted a mobile phone, but Maheep had initially refused, feeling that her daughter was too young for such a responsibility. However, it was Sridevi who stepped in and bought the phone for Shanaya, reasoning that if her daughters, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor, had phones, Shanaya should also have one. Maheep added, "Sridevi purchased the phone for Shanaya. She was like, 'If Janhvi and Khushi have phones, Shanaya should also have it.'"
The connection between the Kapoor and Kapoor families went beyond mere gestures; it was rooted in deep affection and trust. Maheep recalled how, whenever she and Sanjay Kapoor traveled, they would leave their children in Sridevi’s care. "When Sanjay and I used to travel, we would leave the kids with Sridevi. She would handle girls better," she said. It was clear that Sridevi had a unique and special way with her nieces, especially when it came to handling the girls, while her son, Jahaan Kapoor, would often be left to play energetically, sometimes overwhelming the calm environment of Sridevi’s home.

As for Shanaya, she is poised to follow in the footsteps of her legendary aunt and embark on her own journey in Bollywood. She will soon make her grand debut in the romantic drama Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, alongside Vikrant Massey. The film, directed by Santosh Singh, is being produced by Mansi and Varun Bagla under the Mini Films banner. Shanaya will also star in Tu Yaa Main, a film slated for release on Valentine’s Day 2026. This project, which stars Adarsh Gourav, is being described as the ultimate "date fright" experience, blending romance, suspense, and survival.
