Mumbai Police have increased security for actor-comedian Kapil Sharma following a series of alarming incidents linked to gang threats and attacks on his café in Canada. The decision comes days after two separate shootings at his Surrey-based Kap’s Café and threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang over Sharma’s association with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.

The latest incident occurred on August 8, marking the second attack on the café in less than a month. In a purported video of the firing, at least 25 gunshots can be heard. A voice in the background is heard saying, “We had called the target, but he didn’t hear the ring, so we had to take action. If he still doesn’t hear the ring, the next action will be taken soon in Mumbai.”

Two criminal groups – one led by Gurpreet Singh alias Goldy Dhillon and the other linked to Lawrence Bishnoi – have claimed responsibility for the attacks through social media posts. The first attack took place on July 10 when staff members were inside the café. Although no one was injured, investigators discovered around 10 bullet holes in one of the windows, with another pane shattered.

Following the second incident, a gang member identified as “Harry Boxer” issued an audio threat, warning that anyone working with Salman Khan would face dire consequences. He stated that the group was prepared to target not only prominent celebrities but also small-time actors, producers, and directors collaborating with Khan.

The threats are believed to be connected to Salman Khan’s guest appearance in the inaugural episode of the third season of Sharma’s Netflix show, which premiered on June 21. Bishnoi’s gang has long targeted Khan, accusing him of offending the Bishnoi community by allegedly hunting a blackbuck during the 1998 filming of Hum Saath Saath Hain in Jodhpur. The community considers the animal sacred.

In April last year, Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai was the scene of a firing incident, prompting the Maharashtra government to extend his security to the highest level. Now, Mumbai Police have extended similar measures to Kapil Sharma, deploying additional personnel around his residence and work locations to ensure his safety.

Authorities are coordinating with Canadian law enforcement to investigate the attacks abroad while monitoring potential threats in India. The incidents have sparked concern in the entertainment industry, with calls for enhanced protection for public figures facing targeted threats from organized crime.
