As part of its ongoing investigation into the River Mithi cleaning scam, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at Bollywood actor Dino Morea's Maharashtra home on Friday, June 6, 2025.
The residences of a number of contractors and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials involved in the case are also being searched concurrently.
The ED is currently conducting a parallel investigation centred on alleged money laundering activities connected to the scam, following the Mumbai Police's earlier registration of the case.
Thirteen people, including BMC officials and contractors, are accused in the Mithi River cleaning scandal, which has a total value of an astounding ₹65 crore.
In an effort to track the movement of illegal funds, the ED is currently examining financial records and other confiscated evidence.
This investigation is a component of a broader money laundering case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), which was started after the Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) filed a complaint.
13 people had previously been arrested by the EOW on charges of making fraudulent payments for alleged uncompleted river cleaning projects between 2007 and 2021.
The ED believes that the BMC suffered significant losses as a result of the manipulation of tender procedures for the purchase of specialised dredging equipment to favour particular suppliers.
The Mithi River, which flows through Mumbai before draining into the Arabian Sea, has long had problems with flooding and silting. The BMC's purchase and employment of dredging equipment and sludge pushers to clean the river is at the centre of the "Mithi River scam."
These machines were allegedly purchased from Matprop Technical Services Pvt Ltd, a company based in Kochi, at exorbitant prices, raising grave concerns regarding financial irregularities.
