Actor Deepika Padukone turned heads with her glamorous look at Forbes 30/50 Global Summit in Abu Dhabi. However, the actress is also making headlines for talking about her depression and her next steps in her personal and professional career.
During a conversation with Forbes, Deepika shared her struggles with mental health and recalled, “In India back then, which was, like, ten years ago. Nobody spoke about mental illness, and much like the rest of the world, I would think. I think there are very few progressive countries where we actually talk about mental illness.”
She insisted that her mother recognized her struggles and added, “She said, I think you need [help].” Deepika was asked what made her mother recognize her struggle and she responded, “I kept breaking down. I kept crying. I just felt hopeless. I have this weird pettish feeling in my stomach.”
Deepika further noted, “And, you know, my parents live in a different city. So every time they come and visit, I'd I'd always put up a strong front. Right.” The actress revealed that she once broke down in front of her parents. However, she received immense support from her parents during her mental health journey.
Deepika also talked about her next steps and said, “Being a survivor of mental illness, my goal is always peace of mind because there is nothing more important than that. It is easier said than done because it requires work every single day.”
The actress added, “On the professional front, how can I use more of my influence and various platforms—not just social media but also the films I choose to do, the entrepreneurial side, and how can I create a positive impact with all the different things I do.”
