How did Arjun Kapoor lost 50 kg for Bollywood debut ?

The Bollywood star Arjun Kapoor, who is now admired for his toned body, wasn't always this fit. Given that he weighed an incredible 140 kg as a teenager, his transformation is all the more amazing.

Arjun Kapoor had already started a strenuous journey to lose about 50 kg before he made his acting debut in Ishaqzaade in 2012, opposite Parineeti Chopra.

It took him 15 months of consistent work that combined self-control, exercise, and healthy eating; it wasn't a quick fix.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, he spoke about the dedication it demanded, emphasising that consistency was key. Walking, he says, became his simple yet powerful tool.

“When I was fat and overweight, as a kid also, I believed in one thing: that there's nothing better than walking. Even today, when I want to lose weight, I just keep in mind to get out there and walk. Just be physically active. You cannot sit on your best eating food and then cribbing about the fact that you're not losing weight,” he told The Times of India.

Food, however, wasn’t just about cutting calories. Arjun, who has always loved to eat, swapped junk food and sugary treats for fresh fruits, vegetables, and protein-rich meals.

With an egg for breakfast, a Greek souvlaki wrap for lunch, Turkish sushi for a snack in the evening, and Turkish kebabs for dinner, he centred his routine around eating healthily and in moderation. His diet was complemented by a strict exercise routine that included cardio, CrossFit, weight training, and circuit training.

He disclosed in 2024 that he struggled with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune disease that affects metabolism and made it even more difficult to control his weight.

Alongside this, he sought therapy for mild depression, opening up about the mental and emotional challenges that accompanied his physical transformation. “I haven't always opened up about it, but I also have Hashimoto's disease… your body is in fight-or-flight mode. That happened to be when I was 30, and I defied it and I said, 'No, this can't be',” he said.

On the work front, Arjun Kapoor was last seen in Mere Husband Ki Biwi. He also turned antagonist in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Returns and earned accolades for his performance.
