Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor opened up about his battles with obesity, mental health issues, and the demands of unexpected celebrity. The actor also emphasised how crucial it is to normalise therapy and see vulnerability as a strength rather than a flaw.
During his speech at the FICCI Young Leaders Summit in Mumbai, the actor talked about his ‘darkest hours’, admitting that andemic was a turning point in his life.
Arjun stated that COVID gave him "a moment of realisation." He started therapy after realising he hadn't taken care of himself for a decade.
He also recalled that he lost his mother, Mona Shourie Kapoor, in 2012, just before the release of his first movie, Ishaqzaade.
The actor admitted, “I was mourning and celebrating at the same time. I became a star overnight, but I was only running away from my pain.”
Talking about obesity, the actor said, “Losing 50 kilos took me four years. It was as much a mental battle as a physical one. I was lucky to have my mother’s support, but many people don’t have that kind of emotional or financial backing. When you lose your backbone at 25, what can the world do to you?”
The actor also advised young people to prioritise their mental health and seek therapy without feeling ashamed. The "strongest people are those who can acknowledge their emotions," he added, adding that there is "nothing wrong with being vulnerable." He went on to say that therapy offers a "safe outlet for expression, helping individuals feel empowered and sensible."
Arjun urged the audience to embrace vulnerability as a sign of bravery and to "wear their emotions with pride." People "can be emotional and still be powerful," he said.
On the work front, Arjun Kapoor was last seen in Mere Husband Ki Biwi, alongside Rakul Preet Singh, Bhumi Pednekar and Harsh Gujral. The film failed to receive the expected response from the audience and grossed approximately Rs 6.75 crore at the worldwide box office. The actor is expected to be next seen in No Entry 2.
