Broadway-style musical ‘Kaneez’ Starring Siddharth Nigam and Kirti Killedar to premiere in Mumbai this November: Details inside

The story draws inspiration from the real-life tale of Tanno Bai, a famed courtesan from 1920s Patna, and her admirer, the priest Dharikshan Tiwari.

An extravagant Broadway-style musical titled Kaneez is set to premiere at the Jamshed Bhabha Auditorium in Mumbai on November 28 and 29, 2025. Directed by theatre veteran Randhir Ranjan Roy, the production weaves a moving story that delves into love, faith, and the constraints of a divided society.

Kaneez tells the emotional love story of a young priest, portrayed by Siddharth Nigam and Raayo S. Bakhirta, and a graceful courtesan, played by Gulki Joshi and Kirti Killedar. Bound by destiny yet separated by social barriers of caste and faith, their forbidden romance unfolds amidst a backdrop of devotion, prejudice, and sacrifice.

Singer Shaan, who has contributed to the film’s soundtrack, said, “Composing music for Kaneez has been an enlightening experience. The music plays a vital role in expressing emotions that go beyond words, helping the audience connect deeply with the story. I’m honoured to have sung a bhajan for this masterpiece.”

The musical features a stellar ensemble cast, including Jaya Bhattacharya, Sanjay Swaraj, Noyrika Bhatheja, Sunitt Razzdan, Amit Ghosh, Dev Surana, Hardik Thakkar, Vikas Tiwari, and Kalyan Choudhary.

With music composed by Rahul-Anjan and vocals from celebrated singers like Shaan, Papon, Javed Ali, and Kirti Killedar, Kaneez promises to be a feast for the senses — rich with bhajans, thumris, and a soulful mix of classical and retro Indian music.
