Popular actress and singer Sulakshana Pandit passed away on November 6, 2025, leaving a void in the entertainment industry. She was 71. She had reportedly been sick for a long time.
Sulakshana Pandit was a talented singer in addition to her acting career. Tributes started pouring in from the fans and the industry professionals.
Who was Sulakshana Pandit?
During the 1970s and 1980s, Sulakshana Pandit was a popular singer and actress. She was born in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, on July 12, 1954. She started singing at age 9.
Sulakshana Pandit performed for the first time in a movie in 1967. She sang a lot of well-known songs in her movies. In the 1967 movie Taqdeer, she co-performed the hit song ‘Saat Samandar Paar Se’ with Lata Mangeshkar.
She won a Filmfare Award in 1976 for the song ‘Tu Hi Sagar Tu Hi Kinara’ from the movie Sankalp.
She also started getting offers to star in movies during this time. She debuted in Bollywood in the 1975 movie Uljhan.
Her credits also include films like Hera Pheri, Apnapan, Khandaan, and Waqt Ki Deewar. She had shared screen with prominent actors of her time, including Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra, Vinod Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, and Shatrughan Sinha.

Sulakshana Pandit and Sanjeev Kumar
She also made headlines for her admiration for Sanjeev Kumar. They collaborated on the 1975 movie Uljhan. Sulakshana Pandit fell in love with the veteran actor on the set of the movie.
However, Sanjeev Kumar had feelings for Hema Malini. She turned down his proposal. Later, Sulakshana asked Sanjeev Kumar to marry her, but he turned her down. Sulakshana never got married. She fell into depression after Sanjeev Kumar turned her down. She was devastated by Sanjeev's death in 1985 and left the film industry.
Coincidentally, Sulakshana passed away on November 6, 1985, the same day that Sanjeev Kumar passed away.
