Virat Kohli’s recent announcement of retirement from Test cricket has sent waves of emotion across the nation. For many, it marked the end of an era. Fans, cricketers, and celebrities alike poured in heartfelt tributes to thank the former India captain for his extraordinary contribution to the sport. Among the many who expressed admiration was acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who shared a deeply personal message for Kohli.

Taking to Instagram after Kohli’s announcement on Monday, Kashyap wrote, “This young man who went on to rule the pitch and our hearts. Lots of love, champ. You will be missed in the test cricket.” The filmmaker also shared a nostalgic photograph of a young Virat Kohli clad in a National Cricket Academy jersey, seemingly from his early domestic cricket days — a reminder of how far the cricketer has come in his journey.

Kashyap’s tribute stood out for its warmth and simplicity, reflecting what so many feel about Kohli’s departure from the red-ball format. The post quickly gained traction among fans, resonating with those still processing the news.

Other Bollywood celebrities also came forward to honor Kohli’s legacy. Actors Vicky Kaushal, Ranveer Singh, Farhan Akhtar, Aparshakti Khurana, Neha Dhupia, and Abhishek Banerjee took to their social media handles to thank the cricketer for his unmatched spirit and stellar performances.

One of the most touching tributes came from Kohli’s wife, actress Anushka Sharma. In a moving Instagram post, she wrote, “They’ll talk about the records and the milestones — but I’ll remember the tears you never showed, the battles no one saw, and the unwavering love you gave this format of the game... Watching you evolve through it all has been a privilege.”

Kohli had reportedly informed the BCCI of his decision ahead of the upcoming five-match Test series against England. Confirming the news in a heartfelt note on Instagram, he wrote, “As I step away from this format, it’s not easy — but it feels right... I’m walking away with a heart full of gratitude — for the game, for the people I shared the field with, and for every single person who made me feel seen along the way.”

Kohli, who made his Test debut in June 2011, played 123 matches in the format. Known for his aggression, consistency, and leadership, he leaves behind a legacy that has inspired millions — both on and off the field.
