Actress and singer Amanda Seyfried has recently admitted that she auditioned for the role of Glinda in Jon M Chu's 2024 musical fantasy film Wicked. However, she didn't just audition once or twice for the role; she remarkably auditioned six times.
During her recent appearance on Backstage’s In the Envelope podcast. Amanda, who is known for her roles in Mean Girls, Mamma Mia!, among others, suggested that she kept auditioning for the film because it had to be "just right".
The Academy-winning actress said, “I’m in that privileged spot where I just don’t have to (audition). But I like, of course, I talked about this a lot. I auditioned like six times for 'Wicked' because that had to be really just right.”
Amanda continued, “Because that had to be really just right. I loved it. I was busy. I barely had time to do it, but I made it work. I worked my ass off for years and years and years on that music. I’m competitive… with myself in a really healthy way.”

Despite Amanda Seyfried’s six auditions, singer and actor Ariana Grande bagged the role of Glinda in the film. Ariana stars alongside Cynthia Erivo, who portrayed the role of Elphaba.
Musical fantasy Wicked Part 1 was released in November 2024. Chu's directorial film is an adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked, which was itself based on the 1995 novel ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’ by Gregory Maguire.
However, Ariana and Cynthia will reprise their roles in the second instalment, titled Wicked: For Good, slated to hit the theatres on November 21.
