Union Home Minister Amit Shah denounced the allegations levelled by Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita, who had said that the BJP-led central government wants to kill her husband in jail.

He said the Tihar jail, where the AAP supremo is currently lodged, comes under the Delhi government, whose CM is Arvind Kejriwal. “Look, Tihar Jail comes under the Delhi government, whose Chief Minister is Kejriwal ji. So is he conspiring to kill himself,” asked Shah.

On being asked about claims that the DG Prisons reports to Delhi Police, Shah said, “Not at all. Prisons report straight to the Delhi government.” He added that the Centre has no role in it.

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy and had been in Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody till April 1 when a city court remanded him to judicial custody. The AAP leader is currently lodged in the Tihar jail.

Recently, the Supreme Court questioned the ED over the timing of Kejriwal’s arrest ahead of the general elections and sought a reply from the agency. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta asked Additional Solicitor General SV Raju to reply on the question of the timing and said, “Life and liberty are exceedingly important. You can’t deny that.” The bench, which asked Raju several other questions, asked the probe agency to reply on the next date of hearing of Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest in the money laundering case related to the excise policy scam.

The ED is expected to respond to this query when the case comes up again on Friday (May 3).

When asked about Supreme Court's questioning on the timing of the arrest, Shah said, "ED will explain that before the Supreme Court."

Talking about the arrest of former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and Arvind Kejriwal, Shah said, "If they had appeared (before the agency) after the first summons, they would have been arrested six months before the elections. Many times summonses were sent, but they did not come."

Earlier, Sunita Kejriwal had accused the BJP-led central government of denying insulin to her diabetic husband, and alleged that it wants to kill him.

She asserted that the opposition INDIA bloc will fight against the “dictatorship” of the BJP and win.
