India turned up to vote in the first phase of the 18th Lok Sabha elections began on April 19, setting the mood for the festival of democracy.

While the country gears up for the remaining six phases, Moneycontrol has compiled a guide on voting without a voter ID card.

One of the most crucial aspects of voting is the voter ID card. Generally, voters need to carry voter ID cards to cast their franchisees.

However, there's nothing to be worried about if you don’t have a voter ID card because below you will find the steps you can follow in such a situation:

According to guidelines released by the Election Commission of India (ECI), anyone whose name appears on the official voter list is eligible to vote. The absence of a voter ID card will not restrict any citizen from exercising their right to vote.

Before beginning the voting process, you must confirm if your name is on the official voter list of the Election Commission of India. Once confirmed, get a printout of the election slip.

Following this, you need to carry this printout, along with any of the documents mentioned below to cast your franchisee:

  • Aadhar card
  • Passport
  • A PAN card
  • A driver's licence
  • Passbooks with photos from banks or post offices
  • Smart cards for health insurance under the Ministry of Labor's programme
  • MGNREGA work card
  • Pension records, including photo
  • Service ID cards (with a photo) provided by national or local governments, public sector organisations, and public limited businesses
  • The official identity card given to MPs, MLAs, and MLCs.
  • The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment issues Unique Disability IDs (UDIDs).
