Telugu Desam Party’s candidate for Guntur Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh, Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, with total assets worth Rs 5,705 crore, is the richest candidate in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha election.

The total assets consists of Rs 5,598 crore of movable assets and Rs 106 crore of immovable assets, according to an affidavit filed by him.

Pemmasani will take on YSR Congress Party’s K Venkata Rosaiah, the incumbent Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Ponnur constituency and son-in-law of former Union minister Ummareddy Venkateswarlu.

Pemmasani will make his poll debut in these elections. Voting is due in Guntur on May 13 in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha election.

Five things to know about Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, the TDP candidate from Guntur

1. Pemmasani describes himself as a politician, doctor, entrepreneur and philanthropist on his social media. The 48-year-old candidate is the founder of UWorld, an online learning platform.

2. Pemmasani is a medical doctor. He finished his MBBS at NTR University of Health Sciences Vijayawada in 1999 and did MD (Internal Medicine) from Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania in 2005.

3. According to reports, Pemmasani has investments in over 100 publicly-traded companies in the US, such as Microsoft Corp, Coca Cola Co, Uber Technologies, Apple Inc, among others.

4. The TDP candidate also has liabilities amounting to Rs 1,038 crore, as per the affidavit filed by him. He has one pending FIR against him for IPC offences related to illegal payments in connection with an election and bribery.

5. In these elections, Pemmasani replaces Galla Jayadev, a prominent leader of the TDP and former Managing Director of Amara Raja Group, who retired from politics ahead of the elections.
