Both Amethi and Raebareli will go to polls in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 20.

Rahul Gandhi, who lost Amethi to BJP's Smriti Irani in 2019, entered the lower house after winning Wayanad in Kerala.
In 2024, Congress repeated Rahul from Wayanad, which went to polls in the second phase on April 26, but there was continued uncertainty over his decision to fight from a second seat.

There were earlier speculations that Congress may field Rahul from Amethi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from Raebareli. However, reports said that Priyanka was reluctant to contest because she did not want all three members of the Gandhi family in Parliament, which could strengthen the BJP's argument of dynasty politics.

Kishori Lal Sharma is a close aide of the Gandhi family and has been associated with the party for over four decades.

Sonia Gandhi first contested from the constituency in 2004 and represented it in the lower house until 2024, when she moved to Rajya Sabha.
