The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has promised to expand the Rs 5 lakh free health insurance cover to include senior citizens and transgenders in its 2024 election manifesto.
“We will expand the Ayushman Bharat Yojana to cover senior citizens and provide them access to free and quality healthcare,” the BJP manifesto said.
Furthermore, all eligible transgender individuals will be covered under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, it said. Over 34 crore citizens are receiving free health insurance of Rs 5 lakh under Ayushman Bharat.
“We have taken many successful steps in the last ten years to expand and improve health services. We have focused on yoga, fitness, clean air, pure water and nutritious food for the overall well being of our citizens. We developed vaccines to fight the pandemic. Modi's guarantee is to further increase these efforts for a healthy India,” BJP said in its manifesto.
The party, currently in government, said it will continue to provide free health treatment by strengthening Ayushman Bharat and other such initiatives.
“We have provided high quality healthcare services to the middle class families by expanding the AIIMS and Ayushman Arogya Mandir network. We have provided subsidised medicines through Jan Aushadhi Kendras and also established 315 new medical colleges across the country. We will continue to expand these services for our middle class families to ensure accessible high quality healthcare services,” it said.
The manifesto promised to upgrade secondary and primary health care under PM-ABHIM (PM-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission) for robust health care.
The party said that the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will also be strengthened, district hospitals updated and other secondary healthcare centers expanded if it comes to power in the next term.
