Abhinay Sharma, the popular maths teacher known as 'Abhinay Sir' among SSC aspirants, made headlines last week after his sharp retort to Delhi Police during student protests went viral on social media.
The incident occurred when Sharma joined students protesting against recent SSC exam cancellations. Video footage shows a police officer telling Sharma, "Mard hote toh uniform pehante" (Real men wear uniforms). The teacher, who once served as an Income Tax Inspector, shot back: "Main pehen chuka hoon uniform. Ab main apne bachchon ke saath khada hoon" (I've worn the uniform before. Now I stand with my children).
Sharma's YouTube channel 'Abhinay Maths', with over 3 million subscribers, has become a crucial resource for SSC aspirants. The 34-year-old educator had cleared SSC CGL five times between 2012-2016, securing various government posts before quitting to teach full-time.
"This protest is about students' futures," Sharma told reporters. "When exam patterns change abruptly or papers get cancelled, it's the aspirants from small towns who suffer most."
The viral video has sparked debates on social media, with many praising Sharma for standing up for students. Education activists point out this isn't the first time the maths teacher has advocated for exam reforms.
Sharma's journey from a struggling student in Haryana to one of SSC's most sought-after coaches resonates with thousands of aspirants. His coaching centre in Delhi and free YouTube lessons have helped many learners crack competitive exams.
In a major development following last week's widespread protests, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) today announced the postponement of the Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) 2025.
The exam, originally scheduled to begin on August 13, will now be conducted in the first week of September 2025. The SSC cited "operational and technical evaluations" as the reason for the delay in an official notification released this afternoon.
