Tenzin Yangki has created history by becoming the first woman from Arunachal Pradesh to join the Indian Police Service (IPS). Her achievement has brought pride to her state and inspired many young women in the Northeast who wish to serve the nation.

Yangki secured an all-India rank of 545 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2022. After clearing the exam, she completed Phase I training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad. She comes from Tawang district and has shown strong determination throughout her career.

Family Legacy

Yangki belongs to a family with a long history of public service. Her late father, Thupten Tempa, was a former IAS officer and minister, while her mother, Jigmi Choden, retired as a Secretary in the Arunachal Pradesh Government. Growing up with such role models helped shape her aim to contribute to society through administration and policing.

Her journey started several years ago when she cleared the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) exam in 2017. That success laid the foundation for her future path and strengthened her interest in serving the people.

Recently, business leader Anand Mahindra shared her success on social media and called her “an academician, a civil servant, and now an IPS officer.” His post praised her journey and highlighted how breaking a barrier like this is never easy. His message brought wider attention to her accomplishment, with many people applauding her dedication.

Yangki’s achievement serves as a reminder that determination can overcome challenges such as distance, limited resources, or social expectations. Her success marks an important step in improving representation from the Northeast in India’s top civil services.
