Mangalore University has announced the postponement of all undergraduate (UG) examinations originally scheduled for Wednesday, December 11, 2024. The decision follows the Karnataka government’s declaration of a public holiday on the same day to mourn the demise of former Chief Minister S. M. Krishna.
The Registrar (Evaluation) of Mangalore University stated that a new date for the postponed exams will be communicated later. The examinations, part of the odd semester assessments for the 2024-25 academic year, were set to begin on 11 December.
Earlier, issues with fee payments through the Unified University and College Management System (UUCMS) portal had been causing delays. Mangalore University extended the deadline for fee payments for the third time to accommodate affected students.
Additionally the Karnataka government has announced a public holiday on December 11 for all government offices, schools, and colleges, including aided educational institutions. The state will observe a three-day mourning period from December 10 to 12. During this time, the national flag will fly at half-mast at all government offices, and no cultural or entertainment events will be held by the government.
Former Chief Minister S. M. Krishna passed away on December 10, 2024, at the age of 92, in the early hours of Tuesday at 2:45 AM. His cremation will take place with full state honours on Wednesday in his hometown of Mandya. S. M. Krishna is remembered for his significant contributions to Karnataka and India. He was instrumental in transforming Bengaluru into India’s Silicon Valley.
