A disturbing incident has come to light from Kumawas village in the Nawalgarh area of Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan, where more than 25 stray dogs were brutally shot and killed by two individuals on August 2 and 3. The matter gained attention only after a video of the act went viral on social media on Wednesday, The Times of India reported.
The viral video shows two men riding a motorcycle through the village streets, chasing stray dogs and shooting at them. The bodies of the poor animals can be seen lying lifeless on roads and in nearby fields.
Another person, who was riding a second bike, appears to be following and partially filming the cruel act. Police have not yet confirmed whether this third individual was directly involved in the crime.
After the video spread online, police began an investigation and identified one of the accused as Shyochand Bavariya, a resident of Dumra village. A case has been registered against him under various sections of the Animal Cruelty Act as well as the Arms Act.
Former sarpanch of Hamiri Kalan village, Saroj Jhanjhadiya, met the Superintendent of Police Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay and submitted a complaint letter alleging that Shyochand brutally killed 25 dogs without any provocation. She also provided video evidence showing Shyochand committing the act.
Animal lovers and locals alike have expressed deep anger and sadness over the cruelty, demanding that those responsible be punished strictly. SP Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay confirmed that the video is genuine and said that head constable Shubhkaran has been sent to Kumawas village to investigate the matter further.
