Noida is all set to get its first automated puzzle parking facility in Sector 63, a project that aims to reduce the city’s long-standing parking troubles. The new system will be built on four levels and will have the capacity to accommodate about 100 vehicles, with 25 cars on each floor.

The project will cost around Rs 16.5 crore. Unlike traditional hydraulic parking, this modern system will use advanced sensors to automatically move cars between floors within three to six minutes, ensuring faster, safer, and smarter use of space. While the Noida Authority will construct the project, a private operator will be hired through an RFP process to run and maintain it, TOI reported.

The design for this facility has been prepared by Orionn Architects. The puzzle parking works much like a puzzle game where parts keep shifting to make space. When a vehicle arrives, it is placed on a movable platform at the ground level. From there, sensors will guide the car to its designated spot by moving platforms up, down, or sideways. This system allows each car to be retrieved independently, unlike the older stack parking methods where multiple cars had to be shifted before one could be taken out. The entire process of parking and retrieval will only take a few minutes.

SP Singh, General Manager of Noida Authority said the facility is designed to ease parking woes in places where space is limited with poor parking conditions. "The detailed project report (DPR) has been sent to IIT for expert vetting. Once approved, a tender will be floated for construction," he was quoted by TOI as saying.

According to the officials, this method can increase parking capacity by two to five times within the same area. By stacking cars vertically and moving them horizontally, the design ensures efficient use of land. Such systems can be built in basements, empty plots, or even next to existing buildings, and they can be scaled for both small facilities holding 10–20 cars or large projects handling more than 100 vehicles.

The system is also cost-effective as construction is cheaper and faster because it requires less excavation and uses pre-built steel structures. It's considered more sustainable, as it saves land for green spaces and uses less energy than other automated parking systems.

For safety, the system will have secure entry and exit points, along with multiple sensors and locks to prevent accidents involving children or animals. It also reduces manpower needs and minimizes risks of car theft or damage.

On December 2, 2024, the authority had finalised a plan to build a puzzle parking in Sector 124, where officer-goers in MNCs faced parking issues. However, the authority will start work on this project after building it in Sector-63, an old industrial area densely populated and facing severe parking issues.
