The chargesheet submitted by Kolkata Police in the law college rape case revealed that the main accused, 31-year-old Monojit Mishra, had secretly filmed several videos of the victim, including the June 25 assault. Investigators said Mishra later used these videos to threaten and blackmail the student, NDTV reported.
The 650-page chargesheet reveals that several obscene videos of the survivor were recovered from Mishra’s mobile phone. Some of these videos were recorded secretly through a hole in the wall where an exhaust fan was fixed. Officials confirmed that the chargesheet, submitted on Saturday, includes accounts from around 80 witnesses.
According to the police, the medical report of the survivor has confirmed rape, and the DNA of Mishra matched the forensic samples collected during the investigation. CCTV footage also shows the victim being dragged and forcibly held by the accused. The videos found on the phone carried audio evidence as well, and the voices were later confirmed to match the accused through forensic testing.
The 24-year-old student from the Kasba law college was raped inside the institution's premises on June 25. The police registered a case a day after the incident on the basis of a complaint lodged by the survivor.
The police arrested three persons, main accused Monojit Mishra, along with two students of the college, Promit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed. Mishra was a temporary staff of the law college and was also an ex-student of the college. Later, a fourth accused, the security guard of the college, identified as Pinaki Banerjee, was also taken into police custody.
The survivor told police that Mukherjee and Ahmed had also filmed the crime on their mobile phones. During the investigation, police seized the phones and recovered the videos, which supported her statement.
