The SUV segment now accounts for nearly 55% of overall passenger vehicle (PV) sales in India. Among the top brands in the SUV space are the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Tata Nexon and Mahindra Scorpio. However, one model has been having its best-ever year, so far as sales are concerned, in 2025, and it is none other than the Hyundai Creta.
The Creta was not only the largest-selling SUV in India in June, but it has also been the leader during the entire year.
In the first half (January-June) of 2025, the Creta has garnered sales of 1,00,560 units, having been the only SUV to cross the volume milestone of 1,00,000 units during this period. Its sales stood at 15,786 units in June.
In the SUV segment, the Brezza follows the Creta at 93,729 units in the first half of 2025. Then comes the Fronx at 88,066 units, the Nexon at 87,267 units and the Scorpio (N and Classic) at 85,648 units.
The top direct rivals of the Hyundai Creta are the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Kia Seltos and Tata Curvv, all based in the mid-size SUV segment.

Hyundai offers the Creta in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) avatars.
The ICE version has three engine options -- 1.5-litre MPi petrol (115 PS and 144 Nm), 1.5-litre Kappa Turbo GDi petrol (160 PS and 253 Nm) and 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel (116 PS and 250 Nm).
The transmission options include 6-speed MT and IVT automatic with the 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine, 7-speed DCT automatic with the 1.5-litre Kappa Turbo GDi petrol engine, and 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT with the 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine.
The Creta Electric has two battery pack options -- 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. The claimed range on a single full charge is from 390 km to 473 km, depending on the battery pack.
