There are all kinds of scams coming to light nowadays. Scammers are even taking the help of artificial intelligence (AI) to con innocent people into giving them money. From sending out fraud links to using AI to mimic a loved one’s voice, fraudsters are not leaving any trick in the book.
Something similar happened with an Instagram influencer named Charanjeet Kaur. She received a call from a scammer posing as a police officer. The fraudster called on WhatsApp and the display picture (DP) also showed a police officer. The imposter, claiming to be an inspector from Delhi Police, alleged that her “sister” named Charanjeet Kaur has been arrested for blackmailing a minister’s son. The “cop” also demanded Rs 30,000 for her release.
After going along for a few minutes, Kaur revealed that she was the “arrested sister” that the scammer was naming. In the caption of her viral post, Kaur spread awareness about such fraudsters trying to extort money from innocent people and playing on their fear.
"People get scared after seeing the DP of police in such moments, then quickly transfer money without thinking. And in this case they become victims of fraud. I knew about this scam, that's why I survived. Please share this among all your family and friend circle so that they can avoid such scams!" read the caption of the post, loosely translated in English.
Since being shared online, the video has clocked in over 10 million views.
Meanwhile, an X user named Kaveri highlighted a scam in which fraudsters were using AI to extort money. According to Kaveri, the scammer used her daughter's voice and made it sound like she was in trouble. The scammer told Kaveri that her daughter was arrested with three others while attempting to film an MLA’s son in a compromising position and then blackmailing him.
