Fiat-owned Jeep on Monday launched the Compass sports utility vehicle (SUV) at an aggressive price tag of Rs 14.95 lakh in the mid premium category to take on its only rival the Hyundai Tucson.
Fiat Jeep Compass will compete with Tata Motors Hexa and Mahindra XUV500, both of which are priced above Rs 12 lakh. The top-end variant of the Compass will come at Rs 20.65 lakh.
Fiat Jeep Compass Specifications
An all-new 2 litre, turbo-charged diesel engine, producing peak power of 171ps will feature in the Compass. The engine will also be made at the India factory. The vehicle, which is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, returns a mileage of 17.1 km/litre.
Launched with only a diesel engine for the time being the Jeep Compass is a product made at Fiat’s joint venture plant in Ranjangaon near Pune. Fiat has been able to price the Jeep Compass attractively thanks to the localisation content of 65 percent.

Fiat promises to add a 7-speed automatic version along with a supercharged 1.4 litre petrol engine generating maximum power of 162ps variant in the coming months. The petrol variant will roll out closer to Diwali this year.
The Compass undercuts the at least half a dozen rival models such as Ford Endeavour, Honda CRV, Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Fortuner, VW Tiguan and yet-to-be-launched Skoda Kodiaq.

The Compass is the fourth new model by Jeep in India but the first to be locally made. In total Compass will have three variants – Sport, Longitude and Limited spread across seven trims- on sale in the country.
Fiat opened bookings of the Compass in June where buyers had to pay Rs 50,000 for booking the sport utility vehicle. It has already garnered 5,000 bookings.
Customers will have a choice of five colours Minimal Grey, Exotica Red, Hydro Blue, Vocal White and Hip Hop Black as well as options in 4x2 and 4x4.

The Compass will have safety features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Steering Torque (DST), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Adaptive Brake Lights, Panic Brake Assist and many more such features as standard across the range. The Compass Limited 4x4 will be equipped with six airbags with dual stage passenger airbags.
