Box office wraps week with no cheer, older releases keep the show running

With no promising new release and Akshay Kumar's pad selling movie already becoming a thing of the past, there wasn't too much money at the box office this week.

It was not just Nirav Modi's diamonds that lost sheen this week, the box office shared his fate. There was little or no good news for Bollywood. With no promising new release and Akshay Kumar's pad selling movie already becoming a thing of the past, there wasn't too much money at the box office this week.

Well, no one expected Sidharth Malhotra to bring in any record sum of money after Student of the Year of course, but moviegoers being moviegoers always look forward to a new release and Aiyaari wasn't any good for them.

An action thriller in the first place, a genre not very dear to Bollywood film lovers the movie didn't even promise any new song/item number to sell itself. With around Rs 3.5 crore worth collections, the movie did just as how any other Sidharth Malthora film does or is expected to do. Very average was the popular verdict for Malhotra's new offering.

Padman, though didn't do exceptionally well, managed to make some money and pushed its nett collections to close to Rs 65 crore. Looks like the movie will touch Rs 80 crore during its run at the box office. However, fans were disappointed because Padman wasn't as good as what they saw their hero do in the last film Toilet Ek Prem Katha. Given the issue the film deals with, Rs 80 crore wouldn't be a bad number for the film.

Cut to Padmaavat. By now producers are thanking their stars for all the trouble they were showered with because the publicity the film got out of it has kept it afloat till now and how. The film has already crossed Rs 260 crore and looks like it isn't breathing its last anytime soon. Phew!

Salman Khan, on the other hand, continues to mint money at the box office. Tiger Zinda Hai is living up to its name and is showing no signs to bid adieu to the box office. The movie has made close to Rs 340 crore and Khan is keeping his fingers crossed to make the film his highest grosser ever. Good luck to him.
