A touching video from Gaza has gone viral on X, showing a young Palestinian boy celebrating the victory of Zohran Mamdani, the newly elected Mayor of New York City. Locals affectionately nicknamed the child the “Little Zohran Mamdani of Gaza,” turning a modest neighbourhood moment into a symbol of pride and representation.

The widely shared clip shows the boy, dressed smartly with a mock beard drawn on his face to mimic Mamdani’s trademark look, stepping out of a makeshift tent as a crowd cheers and lifts him onto their shoulders. Set against the backdrop of Gaza’s devastation, the joyful scene has struck an emotional chord across social media.

The caption reads:
“Meet the Little Zohran Mamdani of Gaza. His name is Taim, and he said he wants to be just like you. Everyone is celebrating Mayor Mamdani.”

Mamdani, 34, made history this week as the first Muslim and youngest person in more than a century to be elected New York’s mayor. The Indian-Ugandan-American politician, known for his progressive activism and vocal advocacy of Palestinian rights, has long spoken out on issues of global justice.

His victory has resonated deeply across the Middle East, particularly in Gaza, where years of siege and hardship have left residents yearning for moments of recognition and hope. For many, Mamdani’s win — and his outspoken solidarity with Palestinians — represents a rare affirmation from the global stage.

Across the Arab world, users shared the “Little Mamdani” video as a “beautiful reminder that representation matters.” Others said it captured Gaza’s enduring resilience — the ability to celebrate joy and identity even amid destruction.

While Mamdani has not yet responded publicly, his earlier post thanked “people everywhere who believed that justice, compassion, and courage still have a place in politics.”
