In reversal, Trump says supports House vote to release Epstein files

US President Donald Trump on Sunday reiterated his support for House Republicans’ push to release additional files related to Jeffrey Epstein, framing the controversy as a politically motivated distraction by Democrats.

In a detailed post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Republicans “have nothing to hide” and accused his opponents of using the issue to target him and derail the party’s agenda.

Trump claimed the Department of Justice had already provided “tens of thousands of pages” of material related to Epstein to the public, adding that investigators were examining the roles of several prominent Democrats, including Bill Clinton, Reid Hoffman, and Larry Summers, in connection with the disgraced financier.

He insisted that the House Oversight Committee should receive “whatever they are legally entitled to,” saying he did not care about the files being released.

The president urged Republicans to “get back on point,” arguing that the party’s focus should remain on the economy, affordability, border security, and inflation. He credited the GOP’s recent electoral victories to lowering prices, delivering tax cuts, boosting investment, rebuilding the military, and tightening immigration enforcement, along with measures restricting transgender participation in women’s sports.

Trump dismissed the renewed attention on Epstein as an “Epstein trap,” calling it a curse for Democrats rather than Republicans. “Nobody cared about Jeffrey Epstein when he was alive,” he wrote, claiming that Democrats would have released damaging material earlier if they had any. He warned that some Republicans were being “used” and urged the party not to fall for what he labelled a political ploy.
