Elon Musk 'thank you' note for Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk appeared to set aside their months-long feud after Trump welcomed the billionaire to a White House dinner with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. During his address at the US–Saudi Investment Forum, Trump mentioned Musk multiple times.

“You are so lucky I am with you, Elon,” Trump said while promoting new tax-bill deductions for domestic vehicles. Moments later, he joked, “Has he ever thanked me properly?” and again asked, “Has he ever thanked me for that properly?” He made the remarks while discussing a tax credit aimed at supporting electric vehicle buyers.

Trump then shifted to a broader point about deductions, remarking that middle-income Americans “don’t know what the word deduction is,” while wealthy individuals “live on” them. He claimed his administration had offered “the middle class a deduction on the interest if they buy one of a nice Tesla car and they borrow the money.”

He also added with a laugh, “Although I do let him buy other-than-electric cars, but these are minor details.”

Musk later publicly acknowledged Trump’s remarks, posting on X: “I would like to thank President Trump for all he has done for America and the world,” alongside photos from the event showing him with Trump, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.

According to a New York Times report, Musk’s allies are organising a large gathering to mark his stint working with Trump. The report noted that several individuals who served under him in the so-called Department of Government Efficiency are expected to meet in Austin this weekend for a reunion.

Musk is also likely to attend, though his plans could still change, the publication said, citing a source. The two-day event is set to take place at an upscale hotel where Musk frequently stays, and is being coordinated by DOGE leaders, the report added.
