Every year, Apple fans across India count down to the new iPhone launch. But have you ever wondered which state buys the most iPhones? You’d expect Delhi, Bengaluru, or maybe Hyderabad to top the charts. Surprisingly, it’s none of them. The crown goes to Maharashtra.

According to a study by Tata-owned Croma, over a quarter of all iPhones sold between September 2024 and August 2025 were bought in Maharashtra. That’s Mumbai, Pune, and the rest of the state together pulling way ahead of the others. Gujarat came second with 11%, and Delhi followed closely at 10%.

The numbers don’t just stop at where people are buying iPhones. They also show how Indians like their iPhones. And the verdict is clear: we love practicality over splurging. Most buyers (86%) went for the regular iPhones instead of the Pro models. It’s the same story with size — the standard-sized iPhones were chosen nearly nine out of ten times, while the bigger Plus and Pro Max models stayed niche.

Storage preferences are also telling. The 128GB version was the country’s favourite, with nearly one in three picking it up. The 256GB option came next. Hardly anyone went all the way to 512GB or 1TB, proving that Indian buyers like to stick to the sweet spot, enough storage without burning a hole in the pocket.

And when it comes to colours, classic shades rule. Black led the pack, followed by Blue and White. No matter how many funky finishes Apple throws at us, most people still like to keep it simple.

There’s also a growing trend of upgrading smartly. One in five buyers traded in their old iPhones for new ones, and many even signed up for AppleCare to protect their devices. Clearly, for Indian users, an iPhone is not just a gadget but a long-term investment.

So, while Maharashtra may have bragging rights this year, the bigger picture is this, Indian iPhone buyers know exactly what they want: sleek, reliable, and practical choices that balance Apple’s brand appeal with everyday value.
