Moving from iPhone to Android will soon be smoother, thanks to Apple and Google

If you have ever thought about moving from an iPhone to an Android phone or the other way around, you probably know how annoying the switching process can be. Transferring photos, chats, apps and other data often feels confusing and slow. But that is finally about to change. Apple and Google are now working together to make phone switching much simpler.

The latest Android Canary update reveals early signs of this collaboration, as per 9to5 Google report. Android Canary is a test version meant only for developers, but it gives us a peek at what is coming. In this version, Google and Apple have built new tools that let people move their data more easily during the setup process of a new phone. So when you switch to a new iPhone or a new Android device, you will be guided through a smoother and more complete transfer.

Right now, only Pixel phones running Android Canary 2512 can see the early version of this feature, and Apple will add it to an upcoming iOS 26 developer beta. Since these are test builds, they are not meant for everyday users because they may have bugs or performance issues. Over time, the new tools will get more polished and eventually show up in public beta updates and then in final stable releases.

What is most exciting is that the new system will support more types of data. Today, switching usually handles basics like contacts and photos, but often misses out on things like app data, certain settings or files from third-party apps. Google and Apple say this improved version will fill those gaps, so moving from one platform to another will feel a lot more complete.

There is no confirmed date for when everyone will get this updated switching experience. Google will roll it out to Android devices individually, and Apple will release its part through a future update. Until then, users still have to rely on Apple’s Move to iOS app or Google’s Android Switch app, both of which work but have limitations.

If you are planning to switch from Android to iPhone or from iPhone to Android in the coming months, this collaboration is good news. It means the process will soon be easier, faster and far less stressful. For the first time, it looks like both companies actually want people to move across platforms without worrying about losing their data.
