The Recall feature in Windows Copilot+ PCs is one of the most talked about features as it garnered curiosity and controversy. However, if you aren’t interested in the feature, there’s no way to get rid of it or at least uninstall it permanently from the device. At least Microsoft wants it to be there in the device all the time.
If you are unaware, the latest update Windows 11 update with KB5041865 somehow enabled the option to let users remove the Recall feature using the “Turn on or off features” option within the Control panel.
It’s a bug, Recall can’t be uninstalled
Microsoft has confirmed to The Verge that the option to remove Recall using Control Panel in the latest Windows 11 update is a bug and it will be fixed in future updates.
“We are aware of an issue where Recall is incorrectly listed as an option under the ‘Turn Windows features on or off’ dialog in Control Panel,” says Windows senior product manager Brandon LeBlanc in a statement to The Verge.
“This will be fixed in an upcoming update”, he further added.
According to the statement, Microsoft is clear about the fact that the Recall feature can’t be uninstalled from the Copilot+ PCs.
What is Copilot+ PCs Recall feature
Copilot+ PCs were supposed to come with the Recall feature which is powered by AI and keeps screenshots of everything that users do on their PCs to help them resume what they were doing and to find things that somehow can’t ‘recall’.
However, the feature soon ran into controversies over privacy and security concerns. Citing all these, Microsoft delayed the feature to October from June. The company is also expected to make changes to the Recall feature to make it more secure and private.
