  • Police caught suspect after noticing suspicious behavior

A 19-year-old youth allegedly shot his father, dismembered the body and hid parts of it inside a drum at their home in Lucknow’s Aashiana area, police said on Monday.

The accused later confessed that he killed his father because he was being pressured to crack the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET).

The victim, 49, was a pathology lab owner and originally from Jalaun district. According to police, the incident took place around 4.30 am on February 20 after a heated argument between the father and son. The argument was allegedly about studies and the father’s insistence that his son prepare seriously for NEET.

In a fit of rage, the accused, identified as Akshat, used his father’s licensed rifle to shoot him. Police said the shooting happened in front of his sister, whom he later threatened to remain silent about the crime.

After killing his father, Akshat dragged the body from the third floor of the house to the ground floor. There, he dismembered the body. Police said he loaded some body parts into his car and drove to Sadrauna, a remote area, where he disposed of them. The head is still missing, and search teams are trying to recover it.

The remaining torso was stuffed into a plastic drum and kept hidden in a room in the house. The accused later planned to dispose of it as well. However, while he was attempting to get rid of the torso on Monday evening, a police patrol team noticed his suspicious behaviour and stopped him for questioning.

Police officials found his statements inconsistent, which raised suspicion. After prolonged interrogation, he confessed to the crime. DCP Central Zone Vikrant Vir said, “His inconsistent statements raised red flags. Strict interrogation led to his confession.”

Police later took Akshat to the house and recovered the drum containing the mutilated remains. Forensic experts are examining bloodstains found in the car and inside the house. A ricochet bullet was also recovered from the room where the shooting took place. The rifle and bullet have been sent for forensic testing.

Notably, Akshat himself had lodged a missing person complaint after his father was reported missing on February 20.

Police said the accused was also managing a liquor store owned by his father and was paid Rs 17,000 per month, but he was unhappy. The victim’s wife had passed away nine years ago.

The family includes a daughter who is a Class 11 student and another son who works in the Uttar Pradesh Police and is posted at the secretariat.
