A video allegedly showing a student checking Class 10 board examination answer sheets inside a classroom at a school in Maharashtra’s Satara district has gone viral on social media, leading the Kolhapur Divisional Board to launch an investigation.
The video allegedly shows a teacher and two female students sitting on separate benches in an empty classroom and checking answer sheets of the Class 10 board examination. The next classroom visible in the video appears to be full of students, suggesting that regular classes were ongoing in the school at that time.
@dadajibhuse#EducationSystem#BoardExam#Maharashtra#Satara#Phaltanpic.twitter.com/wG3MXsNfh0— ilyas khan (@ilyasilukhan) March 12, 2026
According to a report by The Indian Express, the school was identified as Uttareshwar High School located in Vidani village of Phaltan taluka in Satara district. The complaint along with the video was received by the Kolhapur Divisional Board last week.
Rajesh Kshirsagar, head of the Kolhapur Divisional Board, was quoted by The Indian Express saying that a preliminary inquiry had already begun after the complaint was received. A district-level committee from Satara visited the school on March 9 and submitted an initial report to the Education Officer (Secondary).
According to Kshirsagar, the preliminary findings suggest that the students in the video may not have been checking the answer sheets but were possibly drawing lines on blank pages of the papers.
“From the initial inquiry, it appears that the students were drawing lines on the unused pages of answer sheets. Students who write the exam are expected to cancel unused pages themselves. If they do not, exam supervisors at the centre are supposed to do it, and if that is also missed, it is done during paper evaluation,” Kshirsagar was quoted by The Indian Express as saying.
However, he added that answer sheets are strictly meant to be handled only by authorised personnel. Even if the students were only marking unused pages, allowing them to handle the answer sheets is against the rules.
Officials from the Kolhapur Divisional Board are scheduled to visit the school on March 13 to conduct a detailed investigation, as per the report. During the visit, the team will also examine CCTV footage from the school to understand what exactly happened.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra State Board examinations are nearing completion. The Class 12 board exams concluded on March 11, while the Class 10 board exams will end on March 18.
