Bengaluru's wait for rain continues.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city's observatory has not recorded any rainfall in April, marking the first such instance since 1983.
A Prasad, senior scientist at the IMD Bengaluru observatory, confirmed to Moneycontrol that this April marks the driest in 41 years. "This is the first time since 1983 that April has passed without rain in Bengaluru."
"Before the monsoon season, we expect the El Nino condition to transition to neutral or zero, followed by the development of La Nina conditions, which bodes well for the monsoon. We expect normal to above-normal rainfall this monsoon," he said.

Asked about the reasons for the intense heat, he said: "Global warming, rising population, increasing urbanisation, poor cloud formation, and El Nino are the contributing factors to the lack of rain this summer in Bengaluru."
Bengaluru's rainfall data
Bengaluru IMD last recorded rainfall of around 106.6mm in November 2023. Since then, there has been no notable rain: 0.7mm in December 2023, 2mm in January 2024, and no trace of rain in February, March, and April 2024.
Although a few areas received precipitation on April 19 and 20, it was not recorded by the city's observatory. According to the IMD, there are chances of evening rain with thundershowers from the second week of May.
