It has become an annual tradition for Tim Cook. The Apple CEO honoured the legacy of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs on what would have been his 70th birthday with a heartfelt social media tribute on Tuesday.
"Steve saw the world not just as it was, but as it could be. His vision continues to inspire us to push boundaries and create the future. Today, on his 70th birthday, we honor his legacy and his enduring impact," Cook wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The tribute continues Cook's tradition of publicly commemorating Jobs' birthday each year since the tech visionary's death from cancer in 2011.
Cook, who took over as Apple's CEO after Jobs stepped down shortly before his death, has frequently credited his predecessor as a mentor who shaped his leadership philosophy. In previous tributes and interviews, Cook has emphasised Jobs' focus on enjoying the journey rather than fixating solely on end goals.“For those of us that were fortunate enough to work with him, he was the teacher of a lifetime,” Cook told The Wall Street Journal in an interview.
The Apple CEO also said that Jobs loved to debate “He loved to debate and he loved [having] someone to debate him,” Cook said. “And, you could always change his mind if you had the best idea. We changed each other’s minds. That’s the reason it worked so well.”
Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple with Steve Wozniak in 1976, changed personal computing with the Macintosh. After being removed from the company in 1985, he rejoined in 1997 upon Apple’s acquisition of his company, NeXT. During his second tenure, Jobs spearheaded the development of iconic products such as the iMac, iPod, and iPhone. Under his leadership, Apple underwent a transformative journey, evolving from a struggling computer manufacturer into one of the world’s most esteemed and valuable companies.
