Google Meet has introduced a clever new feature that could change how you show up on camera — and how much you spend on cosmetics. The tech giant is rolling out an AI-powered makeup tool that lets users apply virtual foundation, lipstick, and blush before joining a meeting, offering a realistic and adaptive appearance without the need for actual makeup.
The new tool builds on Google Meet’s existing “Touch-up mode,” which was introduced last year with basic enhancements like lighting adjustments and skin smoothing. This latest upgrade takes things several steps further, using advanced AI to analyse your facial features and lighting conditions to create a natural, studio-like finish. Unlike typical filters that can look artificial or exaggerated, Google’s version focuses on subtle refinement — the kind that moves naturally as you talk, tilt your head, or sip your coffee.
There are 12 preset looks to choose from, designed to suit different moods and occasions. Users can opt for understated professional tones during business meetings or experiment with bolder styles for more casual catch-ups. The looks adapt in real time, helping users feel confident and camera-ready within seconds, without scrambling for a makeup kit or worrying about uneven lighting.
Rolling out from October 8, the AI makeup feature will be available across both web and mobile versions of Google Meet. Access is limited to certain account types, including Workspace Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus, as well as Education Plus, Teaching and Learning add-on, Enterprise Essentials, and Google One premium subscribers.
By default, the feature is turned off, but users can enable it before or during a meeting. Once selected, your preferred look is automatically saved for future calls — which means it’s worth double-checking your settings before your next client presentation to avoid showing up with a weekend-party glow.
While the concept might sound playful, Google’s AI makeup feature is more than a digital vanity experiment. It demonstrates how artificial intelligence is being used to solve everyday challenges — in this case, saving time and money while helping remote workers feel polished and presentable on short notice. The company’s focus on realism and adaptability also reflects a broader shift toward personalisation that enhances authenticity rather than replacing it.
For professionals who often find themselves in back-to-back calls or unexpected meetings, this subtle, smart addition could be a practical game-changer. It’s not a filter; it’s AI convenience in its most quietly transformative form.
