Elon Musk has given a thumbs-up to Google’s latest artificial intelligence tool, Veo 3, calling it “awesome.” The tech billionaire was reacting to a post by Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, who introduced the new model at the Google I/O 2025 event this week.
Veo 3 is a powerful video generation model that can create realistic, high-quality videos complete with audio—something its rivals like OpenAI’s Sora or Meta’s MovieGen still can’t do. This includes not just background sounds and effects, but even spoken dialogue, making the videos feel surprisingly real. Some clips made with Veo 3 have gone viral, with people wondering if they’re looking at real footage or something made entirely by AI.
Musk simply responded to Hassabis’s post by saying, “It is awesome. Nice work.” Hassabis replied with a short but warm “Thanks Elon.”
Hassabis also shared his thoughts on Veo 3, calling it “mindblowing” for how well it understands the physical world. He believes tools like this could help researchers learn more about how the universe works.
This isn’t the first time Musk has praised Google’s Veo models. He had also appreciated Veo 2 in the past. However, he has been openly critical of other parts of Google’s AI work, especially its Gemini model, which he accused of being biased.
While praising Veo 3, Musk is also busy with his own AI company, xAI. The company is reportedly planning a huge investment to build one of the world’s largest computing setups using one million GPUs near Memphis. That could give companies like Nvidia a big boost as the AI race heats up.
