Google is taking search in India to the next level with two major updates that aim to make finding information easier, more conversational, and more accessible than ever. The company is expanding its AI Mode to seven new Indian languages and introducing Search Live, a new feature that combines voice and camera interaction for a real-time, conversational search experience.
AI Mode, Google’s most powerful AI-powered search tool, has already proven popular in India. Since its launch in English and Hindi, users have been diving into complex topics and asking questions almost three times longer than in traditional searches. People have been using it for everything from schoolwork and writing help to comparing products and planning trips.
Now, AI Mode is rolling out in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Unlike simple translation tools, AI Mode uses Google’s custom Gemini model for Search, which can understand the nuances of local languages and deliver genuinely helpful results. The rollout of these new languages will begin over the next week, giving millions more Indians the ability to ask complex questions in the language they are most comfortable with.
In addition, Google is introducing Search Live in AI Mode for users in India in English and Hindi. This feature allows users to interact with Google using both voice and camera, creating a conversational search experience. For example, if someone is trying to make an iced matcha at home, they can show their ingredients to Google and ask, “What is a good order to combine these to make an iced matcha?” The AI will then give step-by-step guidance in real time.
India has long been a leader in multimodal search, with users widely adopting voice and visual search. With Search Live, Google is building on this trend and giving Indian users a more interactive and intuitive way to find answers, troubleshoot problems, explore new ideas, and get things done.
To access Search Live, users can open the Google app and tap the new ‘Live’ icon under the search bar, or open Lens and select ‘Live’ at the bottom of the screen. Google says the rollout will continue over the coming weeks, making these features available to more users gradually.
With AI Mode in more languages and the arrival of Search Live, Google is reinforcing its commitment to making search intuitive, conversational, and accessible for everyone in India, whether for learning, exploring, or everyday problem-solving.
