We all saw this coming and it has finally happened. Amazon has officially announced that it will shut down Amazon Appstore for Android. Starting August 20, 2025, the Appstore app on Android will cease to exist and all the apps and services will be suspended too. The company has already started extending this detail to developers and new app submissions on the app store have been stopped already.

According to the notice sent to developers, apps can receive updates, but no new app will be submitted. In addition to this, users won’t be able to make in-app purchases via the App Store.

Who will be affected?

Amazon’s Android Appstore was aimed at Android users and if you rely on Amazon’s app store, then you will be affected by this. However, considering most apps are available on PlayStore, you can always move to Android’s official app store and download the apps.

Amazon Coins program is going away too

In addition to the App Store, Amazon has also discontinued the Coins program. The coins were a mode of payment on the app store that users could use to make purchases. Users who have the coins can use it till August 20. If you don’t use them, Amazon will issue a refund.

Not only this, Amazon has also killed the appstore in China back in 2023 and it will be pulled from Microsoft Store on March 5, 2025.
