Tennis player killed in Gurugram by father

A 25-year-old tennis player named Radhika Yadav was shot dead by her own father in Gurugram, Haryana on Thursday (July 10), as per a India Today report. As per the report, the incident took place at the Yadav family residence around 10:30 AM (IST) in Sector 57, Gurugram.

According to NDTV, the incident stemmed from an argument between Radhika and her father, who reportedly disapproved of her interest in creating Instagram reels. What began as a routine family disagreement quickly escalated, with her father losing control in a fit of rage, ultimately leading to the fatal shooting.

As per the information, Radhika was shot three times by her father consecutively. She was later rushed to a private hospital with critical injuries.

"We got information from the hospital that a 25-year-old woman had died. She suffered three bullet injuries. We met the woman's uncle but he did not say anything. Then we went to the incident spot where we got to know that the woman's father had fired at her," the report quoted Gurugram Sector 56 police station in-charge.

As per the tenniskhelo.com, she had a ranking of 113 as a doubles tennis player in International Tennis Federation (ITF). As per the website, she was born on March 23, 2000.

As per India Tv News, Radhika achieved a notable position as the No. 5 women’s doubles player in Haryana and held international rankings comparable to well-known Indian players such as Poorvi Bhatt (ranked 109) and Thaniya Sarai Gogulamanda (ranked 125).

In the AITA Girls Under-18 category, she reached her highest ranking of No. 75 on January 22, 2018, after debuting at No. 94 on January 8 the same year. She remained within the Top 100 for 11 weeks during this period. In AITA Women’s Singles, her best ranking was No. 35, achieved on February 12, 2018. Her performance in Women’s Doubles was especially impressive, peaking at No. 53 on April 5, 2021, and maintaining a place in the Top 100 for a remarkable 112 weeks—a testament to her consistency and dedication on the court.
