Yashasvi Jaiswal is undoubtedly one of India's most promising cricketing talents and it's hard to believe that he is just 22 years old. His rise to stardom, however, comes with a deeply inspiring backstory. In a remarkable twist, his elder brother, Tejasvi, was on a similar path in cricket until he made a profound sacrifice. Back in 2012, Tejasvi realized that the family's financial situation could only support one of the two brothers in pursuing their cricketing dreams.
In an act of selflessness, he chose to step aside and give up his own aspirations to work and support his family, allowing Yashasvi to continue chasing his dream of representing India. Tejasvi’s sacrifice is a pivotal chapter in Yashasvi’s journey and it's a testament to the family's unwavering belief in his potential.
Yashasvi hasn't kept a foot wrong since getting selected for the Indian cricket team. On his debut, he made a century to become the 17th Indian to do so and to put the icing on the cake he broke a series record of scoring 700-plus runs against England. However, even in the busy cricket period, Yashasvi made sure he congratulated his brother who is making a return to cricket after seven years. Tejasvi, who is representing Tripura in Ranji Trophy, revealed he received a phone call from his brother following his performance.
"Tune sab ke liye kiya, apne sapne ko choda, bahut sacrifice kiya, abhi tumhara time hai, enjoy karo (You sacrificed your dream for us, now it is your time, enjoy it)," Yashasvi told Tejasvi, reported The Indian Express.
Tejasvi started working as a salesman in Delhi's South Extension to make ends meet. He also used to send a piece of his earnings to Yashasvi as pocket money. He last played in 2014 before pausing his dream for family. Things got better finally when Yashasvi signed a contract with Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Tejasvi went back to his first love - cricket. He couldn't impress much against Meghalaya and Mumbai, having scored just 13 and 4, but showed a lot of promise scoring 82 against Baroda.
"I also wanted to play cricket, but the financial situation of our family was not good. Yashasvi was doing well… So by the end of 2013, I quit Mumbai and cricket and moved to Delhi, where a relative runs a shop," he said.
In between all of this, Tejasvi also got embroiled in an age-fraud controversy which delayed his return even further.

"I played one game in the Harris Shield and picked up seven wickets. Then people started saying that I had an age-verification issue. I was benched for a year and a half. Yashasvi was doing extremely well and I didn’t want his prospects to be affected because of me. Anyway, Mumbai was too expensive for both of us. It was getting difficult for both of us to have two meals a day. At that point Jwala sir, Yashasvi's coach, wasn't in the picture yet."
