WPL Complete Guide Part 4: Nail-biter finishes, hattricks & race to the big Eliminator on March 15

It's WPL history now: Deepti Sharma became the first Indian to take a WPL hat-trick in an edge-of-the-seat match between her side, the UP Warriorz, and the Delhi Capital on March 8. Delhi were all out in 19.5 overs in the low-scoring match. UP won by a single run!

1. Mumbai Indians squared off against the UP Warriorz in the 14th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday, March 7. MI won comfortably, by 42 runs.

2. Beth Mooney said: “Tanuja Kanwer is competitive and knows what she wants... Sometimes we have a few little arguments on the field about what field to set but if I could pick one player in India to have on my team, it's probably her.”

3. RCB’s chances to make it to the playoffs looked 50-50 with just days to go till the Eliminator. Coach Luke Williams said: ‘Our destiny is in our own hands.’ After two back-to-back wins to kick-start their WPL 2024 season, Smriti Mandhana's Royal Challengers Bangalore saw two subsequent losses, followed by a win and a loss apiece. With just one RCB league match to go in the tournament, they were left in a middle-of-the-table scramble in pursuit of a playoffs (March 15) spot - at No. 3 out of five teams, with six points from the three wins and a net run rate of 0.038. They were trailing second-placed Mumbai Indians by two points and Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals which had eight points on the WPL 2024 Points Table at this time.

4. The 16th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 saw Beth Mooney's Gujarat Giants take on Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, March 9. MI won by seven wickets, and with a delivery to spare.

5. 6, 2, W, W, W – How Grace Harris scripted UP Warriorz’s heist against Delhi Capitals: Grace Harris, the Australia batting allrounder, was tasked with defending 10 runs off the last over by UP Warriorz captain Alyssa Healy against the table-leading Delhi Capitals on Friday night. And defend she did: the Warriorz scripted an unlikely one-run win defending a below-par 138 with one ball remaining to keep their playoffs dreams alive at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024.

6. Deepti Sharma became the first Indian to take a WPL hat-trick in a match that the UP Warriorz won by a single run. The edge-of-the-seat thriller was against the table-leading Delhi Capitals on a Friday evening at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. “I feel very proud,” Deepti told WPLT20.com after the match. The hat-trick was just one element of Deepti’s multi-dimensional efficacy against the Capitals. Earlier in the night, she was promoted to No. 3 and struck a crucial 48-ball 59 to lift her side to 138 for 8.

7. The 17th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 saw Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals lock horns with Smriti Mandhana’s Royal Challenges Bangalore at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The Capitals were placed second, and were playing to become the second team to qualify for the WPL 2024 playoffs after Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians. Third-placed Royal Challengers were looking to take their WPL 2024 points tally to eight points and strengthen their net run rate. The Delhi Capitals won the match by a run.

8. Alyssa Healy’s UP Warriorz took on Beth Mooney’s Gujarat Giants in the 18th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday, March 11. The Giants won by 8 runs.
