India captain Shubman Gill heaped praise on pacers Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj for rising to the occasion in the absence of lead bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Their combined effort of 17 wickets played a crucial role in India's commanding 336-run victory in the second Test, which brought the five-match series level at 1-1.
Akash Deep delivered a standout performance, claiming a match haul of 10 wickets—including his maiden five-wicket haul in the second innings—while Siraj provided strong support with seven wickets across both innings.
Reflecting on the bowlers' impact, Gill told former India batter Cheteshwar Pujara during a post-match chat on JioHotstar: "When your two fast bowlers take 17 wickets, then it becomes easy for the skipper. Bumrah bhai was not there but the bowlers we have in the squad are capable of taking 20 wickets in a match."
